DAN PATRICK RETURNS… WITH PREMIERE RADIO

September 27, 2007

danpatrick.jpg

We got this yesterday from our FoxSportsRadio snitch and Radio-Online confirms it that DP will form a nasty duo with Jim Rome for Premiere Radio Networks. The new Patrick show starts on 10/1 and will lead into Rome from 9a-Noon ET.

Expect Premiere/FoxSportsRadio to strong-arm as many stations as possible to carry Patrick’s launch.

Patrick may have a real soft launch since most stations can’t make a move like this without waiting 60-90 days.

DP says this on his blog at DanPatrick.com

So here it is. I’m proud to let you know that ‘The Dan Patrick Show’ will return Monday morning October 1st. We’ll be live from 9a-Noon ET…6a-9a PT on a station near you. We’ll have more info at danpatrick.com leading up to the launch about station specifics.

Thanks to all of you that checked out the site and the blog over the past two months. I can’t wait to get back on the air. Talk to you Monday.

MARGARET CHO GETS THE BAKER THUMBS UP!!

September 27, 2007

Who doesn’t like a thick asian chick? Especially one with a foul mouth. Here’s a slimmed down version of the Cho-ster twirling tassles on her breasts. With the weight loss comes some excess skin. No biggie, right Baker!!! She’s not bad for 39 y.o.!

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH DORIAN PRICE, FIGHTER ELIMINATED FROM EPISODE 2 OF TUF 6

September 27, 2007

tuf62.jpg

Price was submitted quickly by Matt Arroyo so there wasn’t much fighting to break down.

He did speak about experience of the show including hammering Joe Scarola for his whining in Episode 2. For Price, the house was torture, saying prisoners have a more pleasant life than those in the TUF house.

He had nothing but compliments for the work of Matt Hughes, Matt Serra and Robbie Lawler.

Price’s motivation to get into fighting is tragic. Much of it stems from the fact that three of his best friends died within three weeks of each other when he was 21 years old.

Dorian also spoke about the house’s racial environment, saying it was completely positive. He also feels strongly about the excellent impact Rampage Jackson will have on inner city kids getting into MMA.

LIDDELL’S TRAINER JOHN HACKLEMAN SAYS THERE’S ZERO CHANCE THE ICEMAN IS RETIRING

September 27, 2007

hackleman.jpg

Hackleman sat down with Mr. Sunshine for 15 minutes. He guaranteed that Liddell is NOT retiring. And that the next fight versus either Shogun Rua or Wanderlei Silva is already in the works for UFC 79 in Las Vegas in December. Hackleman has also discussed the Shogun fight with Rua’s management.

Other topics Hackleman covered:

*MMA fighters will have more losses than boxers. There are no easy fights.

*He didn’t think Liddell won the fight against Jardine

*He mentioned there were some personal issues for Liddell that got in the way of him being 100% right for the fight. That said, he did give Jardine tons of credit as a great fighter

*He repeated again that leg kicks were not the big key to the victory and said Liddell did work on stopping leg kicks

*He responded to media members, like our buddy Sam Caplan, who felt strongly that Liddell’s defense against leg kicks was lousy. He calls Caplan a moron.

*Said Dana White had a valid point when he questioned Liddell’s hunger, saying that the IceMan is a different fighter now having to deal with money, adulation and the press responsibilities.

* Hackleman said Liddell will be back in the gym this Monday

FUTURE FIGHT UPDATE — SHOGUN RUA OUT WITH INJURY:

UFCMania.com is reporting this:

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua will undergo surgery to repair a knee injury that the Brazilian sustained prior to his submission loss to Forrest Griffin at UFC 76: “Knockout” in his Octagon debut on September 22, according to an article in Gazeta Do Povo.

Here’s a poorly translated snip from Shogun:

“I go to operate this knee in sixth and must be without training for next the three months. For what I talked with the Rudimar master (Fedrigo), I only come back to fight in January or February.”

Considering that most top-level fighters compete on average every three to four months this news is not that bad. It also doesn’t sound too serious if he expect to return to action in about 90 days.

However, a fight with former light heavyweight Chuck Liddell in December now seems out of the question (and that’s good if you ask me … bring on Wanderlei Silva once and for all).

MR. X MAKES ROAD TRIP TO BUFFALO…CHANNELS BILL O’REILLY FOR SOME RACE-RELATED OBSERVATIONS

September 26, 2007

AFTER BILL O’REILLY’S WEIRD COMMENTS ON A 9/19 SHOW… IT GOT MR X. THINKING LIKE A RACIST…

It was amazing. On my vacation to Buffalo, N.Y., I had to make a connection in Atlanta. Hartsfield Airport takes a lot of criticism, mostly because it is so heavily used and massive. It’s a great place though. There was a Chick-FIl-A right when I got off the plane. Also, I passed a Friday’s and a Chili’s on the way to my connecting flight.

What really shocked me, however, was the fact that even though the airport appeared to have a large majority of blacks working in key positions, everything seemed to run very smoothly. I didn’t see one security agent rapping or dancing when he was supposed to be keeping me safe. I also never saw a pilot smoking weed at any point during my hour at Freaknik/Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport. I was floored by the fact that not one person was shot for a pair of sneakers.

Really, it’s pretty amazing when you think about it. I don’t think I’m scared of those people anymore.

NFL COVERING UP PATRIOTS HISTORY OF CHEATING?

September 25, 2007

This is a great interview courtesy ESPNNews with Easterbrook from ESPN.com. The NFL’s handling of the goods that the Pats handed over in the investigation is very curious.

THOSE WHO SAY THEY’RE NOT RACIST, ARE THE MOST DANGEROUS RACISTS

September 25, 2007

oreilly_bill.jpg

After five days of explaining why Donovan McNabb’s statements about black QB’s were completely valid…Bill O’Reilly backs me up with his comments from the heart.

I heard countless white dipsh*t sports-talk hosts hammerMcNabb saying there was absolutely no validity to his comments that black QBs are covered differently.

My immediate thought was, LIARS!

Not every media member or fan thinks this way but many have some sort of prejudice. You hear the code words. The games of Michael Vick and Vince Young are broken down differently. Leadership and running an offense questions often surround the black QB.

O’Reilly’s statement reflect what much of white america thinks….ALL african-americans are the same and their different than “normal” people out there. As O’Reilly expresses…almost animal-like, out of control.

CLICK BELOW TO HEAR THE COMMENTS FROM O’REILLY’S RADIO SHOW AND CNN’S RICK SANCHEZ:

The O’Reilly’s of the world are the most dangerous. They don’t think for one second they’re prejudiced. Most times you hear someone apologize for a statement and say “I’m not racist,” you know the truth. You don’t say these things unless they’re engrained in your daily thought process.

A VIEW FROM THE COUCH

September 24, 2007

Is it too much to ask for on-air contributors to know first and last names?  Now, I would understand if Gus Johnson blew the name of the back-up snapper who was just signed three hours before kickoff and had a last name similar to a third line left-winger on the Czech national hockey team. I’m talking about the names of athletes whom are starters at their positions and are being identified to enforce a point they brought up and trying to reinforce!

BILL COWHER ON CBS

When talking about the Dolphins-Cowboys game in Week 2, he made a point on this week’s game and mentioned how they would fare against the Giants (OK, let’s give him a pass, the Giants were the week one opponent).  Mr. Spit made the point that the Dolphins would need to protect Trent Green versus the pass rush of the Cowboys and Andre Ware.  Yikes.  The former QB gained 60 pounds and is back in the league as a pass rusher?  Perhaps it was DeMarcus Ware.

JOE D’AMBROSIO ON ESPNRADIO

Joe was talking about the Bears offense and mentioned that a certain wide receiver was a big play option.  He identified him as Bertran Berrian.  Oops.  How often does someone confuse Bertrand Berry (Arizona DE) and Bernard Berrian?

As a follow up on the Bears, Quadry Ismail went a step further to talk about all of the weapons the Bears have on offense.  He called Mushin Muhammad “explosive.”  Perhaps when he caught a look from anyone who has watched and NFL game in the past five years, he followed up by saying he was a possession receiver.  An explosive possession receiver?  What’s next, a fat anorexic? A likeable Berman?

CHRIS RUSSO, WFAN IN NEW YORK

God love him, he’s the best sports talk show host in the country and his shtick isn’t being an expert.  That’s the only way this works, but if you hear him break down the Red Sox and Eric GAG-nay, be prepared to spit out your vitamin water, it’s hilarious.  On a similar note, breaking down the Bengals today (why?) he actually didn’t even attempt to pronounce the name of wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh.  He stopped himself on the air and just said “and T.J., I can’t pronounce his last name.”

DUH-DORF?

This is the one that really got me.  It was so crazy, I actually backed-up the TiVo to make sure I heard what I thought I heard.  And yes, I did.

Dolphins score a touchdown with a 1:15 to go against the Jets.  The score moves to 31-27, point after pending.  Dan Dierdorf on CBS actually says, this is one of those situations where unfortunately you have to kick the extra point to make it a three point game.  The risk of missing on a two-point conversion is too dangerous because if you miss, you will need a touchdown to win and not a field goal to tie.  Huh?  When has anyone ever thought of going for two in that situation?  Ever? Not in the NFL, not in college, not in High School, not in Varsity Blues, not in Remember the Titans, hell, not even in the XFL!  Thanks for the Hall of Fame analysis, Dan.

CHICAGO RADIO IS A JOKE

By the way, how’s this for an ouch on the local radio side of things.  In Chicago, Sunday late afternoon, the city preparing for a night game on national TV versus the Cowboys.  ESPN 1000 has a three hour pre-game. WSCR has a pre-season Blackhawk broadcast.  Wow.

MIKE TIRICO SHOW IS ALREADY ANNOYING

I’m getting a good read on the new The Mike Tirico Show.  A lot of nicknames and not a lot of faith in the host.  Mike Tirico mentioned a minimum of four times in his first show that he won’t be on the air every day, but most days.  On the days he’s off, he’s predicting it will be a better show with his co-hosts than when he’s actually on.  Inspiring.

Also, we’ve learned Sean Salisbury is now Sean-O and Todd Blackledge is called “Ledge.”  Keep ‘em coming boys.  I can’t wait to be screamed at by Stephen A. today.

FYI, six days until Dan Patrick comes back to radio.  If a guy does a show but no one is there to listen, did he really do a show?

FRANK TRIGG, POST-FIGHT UFC 76

September 23, 2007

SAM CAPLAN, CBSSPORTS.COM UFC 76 POST-FIGHT

September 23, 2007

Our buddy Sam from fiveouncesofpain.com and Fight Magazine was an angry mo-fo immediately following UFC 76. We were perched high atop the Honda Center as Caplan, blasted UFC president Dana White for ruining a shot at a Chuck Liddell v. Wanderlei Silva fight. He also stated Chuck’s defense v. leg kicks was pathetic. This was Sam at his best. A must listen!!
