IS TRIGG A BUFFOON OR DID HE REALLY THINK TANK WAS GOING TO WIN?

trigg1.jpgWe love Frank Trigg…the UFC, Pride and HDNet veteran fighter and analyst. After looking at this photo, let me tone that down. We LIKE the guy.

FRANK ENOUGH WITH THE MYSPACE PHOTOS!!!!!!!!

That said, even after dozens of radio convos with the guy, I still have no idea what he’s talking about half of the time.

Check out his write-up for mmajunkie.com before the Tank-Kimbo fight. Kimbo won that “fight” inside of 45 seconds. Abbott proved to be a washed-up, 1/4 trick pony.

Was Trigg actually making a case for Abbott winning the fight? The sarcasm(?) escapes me.

Who do you think you are — stepping into my sport with a couple of street fights under your belt? How many of them were real? How many of them were more than just pizza-delivery boys you were trying to rob of their lunch money? “YouTube is a hell of a drug” (said in my best Rick James voice).

I don’t care if you train with one of the best trainers in MMA today in Bas Rutten, and have one of the best kicking coaches in Shawn Tompkins. I don’t care you show up on time and train hard and listen to and do exactly what both of the aforementioned coaches tell you to. Tank Abbott will give you a lesson in how a real fight goes, how a real MMA fighter punches. Tank is no Ray Mercer. Tank has been there, done that, and can do it in his sleep. Tank has great takedown defense and decent submission defense, and he will punch you harder than those welders you fought on my computer have ever punched you.

I get it that Tank is five years past his prime (if he ever really had one). I get it he never really trains for a fight. This time, he does. He came on my radio show (listen to the episode at taggradio.com) and said he is training for this one. He had the time and hooked up with his old partners and wants you to eat his lunch.

Kimbo Slice, you must lose.

So you can move your head like a pro boxer and move your feet better than any heavyweight boxer I have seen? Great stand-up technique is easy when you know the guy you are fighting can’t stop a takedown and has the lung power of a one-lunged throat-cancer patient.

Trigg leave the fight picks to the experts and stick to the uncomfortable photo shoots. Let us all think of better days when Phil Baroni was a big star.

At first I thought Frank was either insane or just being hopelessly nonobjective, but now I’m starting to wonder if the article went over my head.

What. The . Hell. I just watched that video. There is a reason that “they” didn’t want us to see it: “they” are smart. When he dropped trou I was reminded of something Frankie Campbell said to his corner before dying- “Something feels as though it broke in my head”.

  3. “stepping in with a couple street fights under your belt”

uuuuuuuh and several months training hardcore with Bas Rutten :-/ That makes a tiny little difference
