WANDERLEI SILVA v. KEITH JARDINE – LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHTS (205)

We’d say he is back. Frankly, Silva never went anywhere. He broke a three-fight losing streak with a brutal knockout of Jardine.

Jardine threw a low left kick and Silva countered with right hand bomb that landed around Jardine’s ear. He stumlbed, fell down and eventually got to his feet for a second. Silva was an animal swinging for the fences and hit a 600-footer with a left that had Jardine go completely limp. Once mounted on top, Silva threw 11 punches and hammerfists. The final two hit Jardine flush in the face. He was out cold for two minutes after the fight.

As far as Silva being done, there had been little discussion about the quality of competition during his losing streak. Losses to Cro Cop, Dan Henderson and Chuck Liddell are nothing to be embarassed about.

SILVA OVER JARDINE BY KO (STRIKES) IN THE FIRST ROUND AT 0:36 OF THE FIRST ROUND

GORAN RELJIC v. WILSON GOUVEIA – LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHTS (205 LBS)

What a tremendous fight. Gouveia was the big favorite with a 5-1 UFC mark and he may have taken Reljic lightly. Reljic sent the message early in the fight that he’s no joke. He landed some awesome left high kicks. Gouveia swung the momentum back in his favor with a solid final minute of first round. He got top control and pounded Reljic with elbows and kicks.

Gouveia continued the beating at the start of the second. The Brazilian dropped Reljic with a big right. Once on the ground, Gouveia unleashed 30+ punches and elbows, but it look like he punched himself. The fight got back to the fight and Reljic immediately began throwing. He popped Gouveia with a left over the ear and Gouveia went limp falling to the ground. Once there, he was dead meat. He covered up but couldn’t answer 46 straight punches and elbows from the Croatian.

RELJIC OVER GOUVEIA BY TKO (STRIKES) AT 3:15 OF THE SECOND ROUND

TITO ORTIZ v. LYOTO MACHIDA – LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHTS (205 LBS)

It not always about offense in MMA. Tito Ortiz found that out and was embarassed at times by Lyoto Machida.

Ortiz looked old and slow as the much slicker Machida picked his spots to land leg kicks, head kicks and left hand leads. Ortiz also looked like the weaker fighter. It was an amazing development considering Ortiz has always been regarded as a huge fighter at 205 pounds who made his career by overpowering his opponents. .

It was13:30 before the fight brought the crowd to its feet.

Machida buried a huge left knee to the ribs of Ortiz. Ortiz went down in a heap and then got blasted by 8-10 hard elbows from Machida. Tito was in survival mode on the floor. But he almost hit a hail mary with less than 35 seconds left in the fight. Never known for his jiu-jitsu, Ortiz slapped on a triangle choke. Machida looked like he was in real trouble but then spun trying to improve his position. When he did that, Ortiz decided to work on the armbar. That decision may have cost Ortiz the fight. Machida slipped out and took back control of the fight.

MACHIDA OVER ORTIZ BY UNANIMOUS DECISION (30-27 ON ALL THREE CARDS)

THIAGO SILVA v. ANTONIO MENDES – LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHTS (205 LBS)

Mendes came hard early and immediately threatened the unbeaten record of Silva. Mendes dropped Silva with a head kick. Silva got right back up and then got floored by a body kick.

Silva gets up and fight drifts to the cage. His power takes over and he collapes Mendes to the floor. Mendes is helpless and gets mounted. Silva throws eight big bombs from the top and the fight is stopped. SILVA

OVER MENDES BY TKO (STRIKES) AT 2:24 OF THE FIRST ROUND

ROUSIMAR PALHARES V. IVAN SALAVERRY – MIDDLEWEIGHTS (185 LBS)What a display of Brazilian jiu-jitsu by Palhares. He got Salaverry to the ground just seconds into the fight and mounted the veteran 42 seconds in. Salaverry spun and gave his back at 4:01 of the first. Palhares then tried to work for the choke for the next 90 seconds.

Salaverry was doing a solid job of avoiding the submission by bridging. Salaverry (12-7, 2-3 UFC) tried to explode out. Big mistake. Palhares transitioned from the back to an armbar that had Salaverry yelping in pain. Palhares (8-1, 1-0 UFC) was slick.

PALHARES OVER SALAVERRY BY SUBMISSION (Armbar) AT 2:36 OF THE SECOND ROUND

KAZUHIRO NAKAMURA v. RAMEAU SOKOUDJOU – LIGHT HWT (205 LBS)
Sokoudjou (5-2, 1-1 UFC) came out aggressively with kicks and punches in the opening two minutes. Nakamura stemmed the tide and actually slowed the “African Assassin’s” pace landing a couple of good punches.

The crowd was booing in the final minute as the fight slowed to a crawl. Sokoudjou responded with a short right inside of 10 seconds left in the round. Nakamura went down in a heap with his right leg folded under his body weight. When he rose, he could barely walk.

The fight was stopped between rounds with the Japanese fighter. It’s clear Nakamura (11-8, 0-2 UFC) needs to drop to 185.

SOKOUDJOU OVER NAKAMURA BY TKO (DOCTOR STOPPAGE)

TERRY ETIM V. RICH CLEMENTI – LIGHTWEIGHTS (155 LBS)

This was a competitive fight pitting guys with completely opposing styles. Clementi looked to takedown Etim the entire fight. He had solid success getting the Brit to the floor but did little with it. Etim peppered Clementi punches and knees. His kicks were the most effective weapon in the fight.

That said judges love the guy who scores takedowns and gets top control. Clementi was given the edge. Referee Yves Lavigne did a poor job standing the fight up in three different scenarios where Clementi had dominant position. Give Clementi (32-12-1, 5-3 UFC) credit, he won this fight just over a month after his last victory at UFC 83 in Montreal. With the win over Etim (10-2, 1-2 UFC), he’s now won six straight fights.

CLEMENTI OVER ETIM BY UNANIMOUS DECISION (29-28 on all three cards)

JON KOPPENHAVER v. YOSHIYUKI YOSHIDA – WELTERWEIGHTS (170 LBS)

The enigmatic Koppenhaver didn’t look right in this one. Yoshida, a 4th-degree black belt, backed up his lofty reputation. Koppenhaver made a tactical error right off the bat, clinching with Yoshida. The Japanese fighter, Yoshida, executed a beautiful judo throw to send “War Machine” to his back.

In a split second, Yoshida (10-2, 1-0 UFC) got on top and locked in a guillotine choke. Herb Dean had an obstructed view but finally stopped the fight with Koppenhaver fast asleep. War Machine may have been out for 8-10 seconds before the stoppage. It was hard to tell.

YOSHIDA OVER KOPPENHAVER BY SUBMISSION (GUILLOTINE CHOKE) AT :56 OF THE FIRST ROUND

DONG-HYUN KIM v. JASON TAN – WELTERWEIGHTS (170 LBS)

Kim, making his UFC debut, looked pretty awesome. He was smooth with his stand-up and really tough on the floor. Kim (10-1-1, 1-0 UFC) set the tone by destroying Tan (5-3, 0-2 UFC) on the floor in the first. It was much of the same in the second. Kim got top position to start the third and delivered 5-6 powerful elbows to stop the fight.
KIM OVER TAN BY TKO (ELBOW STRIKES) AT :25 OF THE THIRD ROUND

SHANE CARWIN (252) v. CHRISTIAN WELLISCH (230) – HEAVYWEIGHTS

Carwin was touted as a beast and he delivered. At 6-3, 252, he had a reputation as a wrestler, ground and pound fighter. Wellisch learned that Carwin’s hands are pretty devastating.

The fighters stood toe-to-toe until Carwin (9-0, 1-0 UFC) landed a huge overhand right and knocked “The Hungarian Nightmare’s” mouthpiece went flying. Wellisch (8-4, 2-2 UFC) crumpled to the floor.

CARWIN OVER WELLISCH (KNOCKOUT) AT 0:44 OF THE FIRST ROUND

HOLY SH*T, FERGIE HAS LOST HER MIND

This is one of the greatest videos I’ve ever seen.

The ultra hot and apparently Olympic gymnast Fergie, dances like our favorites from Cheetahs Strip Club in front of a bunch of 6-12 year olds. The kids looked embarassed as Fergie shakes her ass, moans and groans during an early morning appearance on the Today Show. Wow!

I’M STARTING TO CHANNEL BUZZ BISSINGER’S ANGER ABOUT SOME ASPECTS OF BLOGS

There are lots of good bloggers out there. And then there are those who are stupid and lives revolve around calling in daily to dork-talk on stations like WIP, WFAN and WEEI.

During his now infamous CostasNow meltdown, it was clear Bissinger confused the actual blogger with the viewers comments.

I have to say the annoying 23-year old fat sh*t sitting in his basement commenting on many blogs does need to be kicked in the face. We posted the story yesterday about Hunter Pence’s ridiculously hot girlfriend. Check out the photos. It cracks me up to read the dipsh*ts reading the blog start to pick her apart…

MIKE — She’s got a tad of a badunkadunk. He could do much better.

STEVE — Nice Hooters, but my wife has beautiful hooters, and my wife is 14 years older than ;this girl.

CDOLLAZ — Classic butterface

To be expected, the rest of the comments proceeded to destroy those “picky, hot” guys who said Pence’s chick wasn’t good enough for them.

IS KEVIN JOHNSON A VICTIM OF FEMALE DOUBLE-STANDARD?

The former NBA player is running for Mayor of Sacramento. I bet you KJ thought playing the Detroit Bad Boys was dirty, but it’s nothing compared to the political arena.

Johnson has dealt with two unproven sexual misconduct charges over the last 13 years. In both cases, the police couldn’t find enough evidence to make the claims stick. KJ was exonerated.

That said, the female candidate in the Sac mayoral race has repeatedly made it fair game to smear KJ during the lead up to the early June election. SportsByBrooks.com has a good list of the stories detailing how KJ has been a human punching bag for the female candidate……

WHO’S THE REAL MAN, PHIL OR POP?

I’ve been a called pansy for being an avid fan of American Idol. I’m sure all “real” men know by now…David Cook won the Battle of the Davids. I’m positive one NBA coach has no idea who won the contest.

Lakers coach Phil Jackson and Spurs headman Gregg Popovich were asked about the Idol Finale which coincidentally was taking place across the street from Staples Center in LA.

Jackson was predictably smooth when asked about the show…

“Well, fan may be a broad term,” Jackson said. “I’m kind of a nay-sayer but I enjoy watching it with Jeanie (Buss, his girlfriend). She (records and) edits it for me.”

So, who does Phil like?

“I think David’s going to win,” he said.

Popovich not so much….

“Is that where they dance with each other?” he said, laughing.

So is Phil a wimp? Or is he the wiseman, afterall he’s the one with Jeannie B (NSFW).

BIGGEST RIPOFF SURGERY GOING

I could be a bastard and laughed at the now fat Carnie Wilson but I won’t. I actually feel for the mouthy lardass.

The photo on the left was from a Playboy shoot back in 2003. She lost 150+ pounds with the aid of stomach reduction surgery and then showed an impressively huge rack (NSFW).

Apparently, she’s eaten like an elephant since and the surgery isn’t exactly fullproof. You feel bad for her? Or am I old, soft pussy?

DOES ANYONE READ THIS CHICAGO PAPER?

The Arlington Daily Herald may be the third biggest paper in the Chicagoland area for all I know. Or it could be suitable for kitty litter liner.

Either way this Bulls writer is off his rocker. He is the typical print media member nowadays. If I say black, you say white. If I say the sky is blue, you say it’s not. It’s the Peter Brown (former radio host) principle, go against the grain just to piss people off. The point being there is too much arguing simply to create conflict. Does ADH writer Barry Rozner really believe this is a wise move for the Bulls No. 1 pick?.?.?.?.

Maybe the best move is to deal the pick and get three from New Jersey (10, 21, 40), rebuilding the team and finding a star in a trade, but that kind of radical thinking doesn’t seem possible given Paxson’s deliberate nature.

He follows up that gem with a suggestion that if you take Derrick Rose, you may want to get THE guy who knows how to coach him.

All this might be easier if the Bulls had a coach in place, and it wouldn’t be as crazy as you think to steal John Calipari from Memphis, since he understands Rose and would certainly know how to employ him.

Smart move Calipari, the Rose “expert” coached him for all of 39 games. Of course this completely discounts the fact that Calipari’s NBA resume kinda stinks.

CANSECO HITS ROCK BOTTOM

Jose is one step away from the poor house. This from SportsByBrooks.com…

Dan Gross of the PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS punches up news that the former MLB slugger-slash-offending author is looking for a fight. He & his promoter already have a date & place set – July 12 in Atlantic City. Now all they need is an opponent.

So, what’s it worth to someone willing to go a few rounds with Jose?

About $5,000. Canseco may even thrown in a signed copy of either “Juiced” on “Vindicated” – but not both. That’ll hurt book sales.

Those interested in stepping into the ring with Jose should forward along their name, address, phone, trunk size & choice of corner water (Evian, Arrowhead, tap) to fightcanseco@aol.com.

GREAT JOB BY SPORTSRADIO’S ETHICAL EXPERT

GOOD LEBRON DEBATE .. ANTHONY V. BAYLESS

VECSEY JUMPS ON THE BASH LEBRON BANDWAGON, DOES HE HAVE A POINT?

You may disagree with Peter but it is refreshing to see him simply state his opinion and not make up stories as he did twice in a week, two weeks ago.

After years of being targeted by defensive gameplans you’d think LeBron (i.e. coach Mike Brown) would understand (insist) that by giving up the ball sooner on each possession (and continuing to move), the greater difficulty opponents have surrounding James when he gets it back in better scoring position.

WHY DOES HORSE RACING’S DUTROW GET A FREE PASS?

Big Brown’s trainer is the equivalent of Dave Bliss taking Cincinnati to the Final Four in 2011. How is this guy still working in the racing industry?

Dutrow’s ARCI rap sheet contains 72 entries, including fines and suspensions in Maryland, California, New York, Florida, Delaware and New Jersey.

Several of those are for his own personal conduct; many involve marijuana. Others include: an alleged attempt to pass forged checks in Maryland; an attempt to provide a false urine sample “by means of an apparatus concealed on his person”; and a failure to report on a New York license application a 1991 criminal conviction in Nevada.

And he’s been fined or suspended at least once every year since 2000 for doping issues. In 2000, a barn search in New York produced “an injectible vitamin which is forbidden.” In ’01, a horse had excessive Lasix — an anti-bleeding medication — in its system. In ’02, Dutrow “failed to follow Lasix procedures.” In ’03, a horse tested positive for Mepivacaine. From ’04 through an ’08 fine in Florida, there were citations regarding Lasix, Clenbuterol, Phenylbutazone and Oxyphenbutazone.

COME ON, YOU KNOW IT’S WRONG…TISK, TISK WEBSTER!!

HOOPS RECRUITING UPDATE

UNLV looked to have it’s pick of the litter a few weeks back with Kentucky’s Derrick Jasper and Pepperdine’s Malcolm Thomas looking at Vegas as a transfer destination. Things have gotten really quiet.

Thomas is apparently an academic mess. Reports are that UNLV is clearly behind UCLA and San Diego State in the race.

Jasper is now being courted by Minnesota (former KY coach Tubby Smith) and Cal along with the Rebels. There is also some buzz in Lexington that he may just stay at Kentucky. Stay tuned.

UNLV is also being mentioned in the race for another transfer. Curtis Kelly, a 6-foot-9 sophomore, is leaving UConn.

Jeff Goodman of FoxSports.com is reporting that Kelly is looked at K-State this weekend. He told Goodman that he’s also considering  UNLV, Kentucky, Xavier, Rhode Island, Virginia and Miami.

Kelly, ranked ahead of …Wayne Chism (Tenn), Taj Gibson (USC), Ryan Anderson (Cal)…was the 11th-rated PF in 2006 coming out of Rice (Manhattan). He chose UConn over L’Ville, Pitt and Syracuse.

MR. SUNSHINE TAKING VEGAS BY STORM!!!

May 19, 2008

It’s pretty special when you can become THE host that listeners want to attack the most, in just five months on the new station.

I may have earned that prestigious label.

Paulie Howard nearly got his head ripped off this weekend by MMA fighter Phil Baroni. You can see in the picture, Baroni slapped on a vicious choke. He wouldn’t let it go until Paulie tapped 17 times!!!

Today, the Vegas listeners were offered the opportunity to choke out any of the five ESPNRadio1100 hosts…Paulie and Mr. Sunshine are in a heated battle. They have left Mitch Moss, Seat Williams and Dave Cokin in the dust.

Next time to jazz things up, have Kimbo come out with country racist legend David Allan Coe. Wouldn’t it fun to watch Kimbo beat the living sh*t out of Coe on live TV?

DID ANDERSON SILVA LIE TO HOUSTON NEWSPAPER AND FANS?

May 19, 2008

The Houston Chronicle sounds pissed about some “confusion” about a canceled Silva appearance in H-town.

MFS Houston released this official statement regarding the cancellation of this weekend’s seminar with Anderson “The Spider” Silva.

Chronicle MMA Community,

We want to issue an official statement regarding the seminar that was suppose to take place this weekend with Anderson “Spider” Silva. We received a phone call last night from Anderson’s manager Ed informing us that the seminar was going to be canceled due to a personal family health issues. Obviously, we were taken a back and concerned for Anderson and his family. We were also very disappointed for all of our students and fans who had planned to attend our seminar this weekend.

It was brought to our attention this morning that Anderson and Nogueria are both having a two-day seminar at their grand opening event in Miami. If this is true then we have been completely misled and as you can imagine we are furious at this. We are doing our due diligence to confirm that this is really happening. If this is true we will take all legal recourse possible.

We are extremely sorry for all those who planned on attending this event!
