SUZYN WALDMAN EMBARASSES HERSELF AGAIN

Maybe we need a more sensitive approach to covering sports. It’s quite possible that most radio hosts are way too harsh on athletes. coaches and teams.

That said, do I need to get weepy on the air when the team/sport that I cover loses?

That’s ridiculous. You’re a member of the media. Show some semblence of objectivity. You can have rooting interests or even be a homer, but when you’re driven to tears…you become an embarassment.

Just look to Yankees broadcaster Suzyn Waldman for latest example of this. Her performance on the Yankee post-game show made me sad for all female broadcasters. There’s an incredible stigma on female sports media members and Waldman added fuel to the fire for female bashers.

Listen to her try to hold it together after New York’s loss on Monday.

Waldman became a national laughing stock back in May with this over the top reaction to Roger Clemens return to New York.

Even Don Zimmer is embarassed.

I will give her credit, towards the end of the broadcast on Monday, she pulled it together to present a good pro-Joe Torre argument. And she did encapsulate the mood in that clubhouse.

Thanks to WCBS for the audio.
