HOUSTON ALEXANDER v THIAGO SILVA

1ST ROUND — Silva fights cautiously early on and weathers Alexander’s storm. Silva scores a takedown at 3:23 left in the round. He eventually works to a mount in less than 30 seconds. In the mount, Alexander tries to hold on but Silva gets free too many times. Silva closes the fight with some huge bombs with just over a minute left. He lands 6-8 shots square to Alexander’s face and Houston goes out. Alexander myth is shattered!!!

SILVA WINS BY KO AT 3:25 OF 1ST ROUND

KARO PARISYAN v RYO CHONAN (OOPS, SORRY HAD GONO LISTED HERE TOO…THE NEWARK AIR GOT TO ME)

1st ROUND – Karo takes Chonan to the ground anytime he wants. Any shot Chonan tries with kick is caught. Karo controls the ground…PARISYAN 10-9

2ND ROUND – Karo closes the round in strong fashion. Working top control, he delivers some good elbows.…PARISYAN 10-9

3RD ROUND — Slowest round of the fight. Parisyan is gassed but Chonan can’t take advantage…PARISYAN 10-9

PARISYAN WINS BY UNANIMOUS DECISION (30-27 ON ALL CARDS)

ED HERMAN v JOE DOERKSEN – MIDDLEWEIGHTS

1ST ROUND — Doerksen took the fight on short notice and he’s having trouble staying off his back. Herman dominates with top control for much of the round. During one of the few stand-up moments, Herman slices open Doerksen’s left eyelid….HERMAN 10-9

2ND ROUND — Excellent round. Herman controls much of the round but gets caught in a triangle and armbar to close the round with 10 seconds left. He also had Herman’s back in the middle. Herman blew the round with two miscues…DOERKSEN 10-9

3RD ROUND — Herman has to be shaken. Wow!!!! Ed lands a left hook right below Doerksen’s ear! FIGHT OVER ….HERMAN WINS BY KO AT :35 OF THE 3RD ROUND

SPENCER FISHER v FRANK EDGAR — LIGHTWEIGHTS

1ST ROUND — Edgar scores two legit takedowns and spends over four minutes with top control. The N.J.-native didn’t do massive damage but kept Fisher from doing anything….EDGAR 10-9

2nd ROUND — This is a wrestling exhibition. Fisher goes down 10 seconds into the round. They get to the feet once and Edgar immediately gets it back down. No submission, not a lot of damage being done….but Edgar is controlling the fight….EDGAR 10-9

3RD ROUND — Is it live or Memorex? This one is the same at Rounds 1 and 2. Fisher can’t stay off the ground. Edgar controls and land some effective elbows and punches….EDGAR WINS BY UNANIMOUS DECISION (30-27 2x and 30-26)

Edgar is a good fighter but this was reminiscent of the Jake O’Brien over Heath Herring fight. Too much lay and pray.

CHRIS LYTLE v. THIAGO ALVES

1ST ROUND — Wow, that was a different Lytle than we’ve seen in the past. He was throwing punches with max power throughout the round. He did suffer a bad cut over the left eye. But Lytle controlled the pace and landed the better shots….LYTLE 10-9

2nd ROUND — Great round of strategy. Alves slows down the hand work by Lytle with excellent legs kick to Lytle’s front leg….ALVES 10-9

HUH, THE FIGHT GOT STOPPED!!! LYTLE’S EYE DOESN’T PICK UP MUCH ADDITIONAL DAMAGE. THE DOCTOR STOPPED IT. WHAT THE FRIG!!! WOW THE EYE WASN’T EVEN BLEEDING. SHOULD’VE BEEN EVEN FIGHT GOING TO THE THIRD. ALVES WINS BY TKO!!

JOE LAUZON v JASON REINHARDT – LIGHWEIGHTS

1st ROUND — Bye-bye unbeaten record for Reinhardt. He looked overmatched and outsized from the get-go. Lauzon scored a simple takedown 40 seconds into the fight. Once on the ground, Reinhardt tried to scramble as Lauzon gained north-south top control. Lauzon quickly got Reinhardt’s back and submitted Reinhardt with 3:42 left in the first….LAUZON BY SUBMISSION (Rear-naked choke) at 1:18 of the first.

MARCUS AURELIO v LUKE CAUDILLO – LIGHTWEIGHTS

1ST ROUND — Aurelio looking to bounce back in his UFC debut to Clay Guida, was awesome in this one. From the get-go, his goal was to get the fight to the ground. He got Caudillo down with 2:16 left in the first and immediately got side control. Aurelio then pounded Caudillo senseless for over  1 1/2 minutes with a blend of right hammerfists and elbow. The fight was stopped with 32 seconds left in the first. Caudillo complained it was stopped too early. Kevin Mulhall did a good job with the stppage. Caudillo was defenseless….AURELIO BY TKO AT 4:28 OF THE FIRST!!!

AKIHIRO GONO v TAMDAN McCRORY — WELTERWEIGHTS

1st ROUND — McCrory pushes the pace on the feet. He lands the better kicks and punches. He’s also effective with a few thai clinches. The fight goes to the ground with 1:10 left with Gono on top. He eventually works to side control but does little damage…MCCRORY 10-9

2ND ROUND — McCrory looks like a different fighter this round, much more cautious. Gono lands a big left at 3:15 and McCrory goes down. Gono gains side control. He passively works side control until McCrory attempted to spin and gave his back. Gono quickly cinches on an armbar and McCrory tapped at 3:07 of the 2nd…GONO WINS!!!!
