UFN 13 POST-FIGHT…MAYNARD BREAKS RIGHT HAND & IRVIN WANTS A PIECE OF GENE SIMMONS
UFC’s return to Denver was a financial success.
Ultimate Fight Night 13 set a Broomfield Event Center attendance mark with 6,742. The live gate was approx. $753,000. That’s a pretty staggering number when you consider Strikeforce/Elite XC did a $1.1 million gate with a paid crowd of close to 15,000 to see the Cung Le-Frank Shamrock card.
Gray Maynard was elated after the biggest win of his career over Frank Edgar. He did break his right hand. He had no idea when it happened he just knew it “sort of” hurt after the fight.
James Irvin, an eight second winner, was entertaining stating maybe now he’ll get a shot at some of the older legends at 205 lbs saying, “those guys who used to be able to beat the fuck out of me.” Amazingly Irvin’s right hand was sore (wouldn’t shake hands with anyone) after landing, maximum three punches. It shows how hard that first blast was on Alexander’s grill.
One funny note from the presser. Irvin was asked who else he wants next…his answer, “Gene Simmons.” When asked to elaborate he caught himself and just chuckled. Anyone out there know what the story could be with Simmons or if there is any story?
Kenny Florian spoke at length (sorry no audio) about the struggles with his balky back in the weeks leading up to the fight. He was told to take six weeks off and instead took six days.
