WACK’EM WEDNESDAY…KEVIN IOLE, DAN RAFAEL AND DAN MIRAGLIOTTA

It was a good show today during our weekly fight hour on ESPNRadio1100.

We got a chance to speak with Yahoo’s Iole about UFC 83, Rafael from ESPN.com about the BHop-Calzaghe fight and MMA ref Miragliotta about his fight with a fan at UFC 83 plus the Kalib Starnes marathon.

Iole highlights included him saying that..

“GSP is more unbeatable at 170 than Anderson Silva at 185”

“The judge who scored Starnes-Quarry 30-24 made a mistake, the referee should’ve penalized Starnes and taken the points away.”

“Starnes told me he had gotten grief during TUF and he didn’t want to quit a fight again.”

“Starnes labeled UFC’s contracts oppressive.”

“UFC may postpone or push back UFC 85 in London. Maybe they could move Ortiz-Machida to UFC 85.”

MMA referee Miragliotta broke down his tussle with a fan at UFC 83. He also said he was unsure if he should discipline Starnes during his fight for inactivity. As a ref working just his 4th UFC card, he didn’t know how that would fly with UFC. He said there is no provision in the unified rules to discipline an inactive fighter.

Dan Rafael highlights included that he scored the BHop-Calzaghe fight for Hopkins as did many other esteemed boxing writers, he still has Calzaghe No. 2 on the pound-for-pound list and Planet Hollywood is still committed to working with bigtime boxing matches in Vegas.

Here is the audio. I’ve placed the embedded audio on my radio station’s site. Since wordpress overhauled its backend, I can’t post my audio properly.

Regarding inactivity… It’s less inactive and more passive, ie refusing to engage in the fight rather than stalling.

It’s possible for Miragliotta to deduct a point for timidity, much as Big John did against Mark Hominick (I forget who Hominick fought).
