ESPNRADIO920’S HATTON-MAYWEATHER POST-FIGHT SHOW ARCHIVE

December 11, 2007

 ESPN 920

Steve Kim from Maxboxing.com joined Cofield for the first 90 minutes. Lots of issues were addressed. Was Ricky Hatton ever in this fight? The HBO broadcasters thought it was a close fight, were they insane? Has Floyd Mayweather really accomplished much in beating Ricky Hatton and Oscar DelaHoya? Is he the undisputed pound-for-pound champ? Tons of Vegas callers phoned in with their takes.

PART I:

More calls in this segment of the show. The guys also addressed the behavior of the British fans. Is it a big deal that they booed the U.S. national anthem?

PART II:

More calls here and a caller addresses the difference between racism & bigotry.

PART III:

Cofield turned his attention to the other Vegas fight card, the TUF 6 Finale at the Palms. Adam Hill, Las Vegas Review Journal, joined Yahoo’s Kevin Iole to break things down. Iole also updated us on the status of UFC lightweight champ Sean Sherk and his title belt.

PART IV:

EVERYTHING IS NOT RACIST

October 25, 2007

You have to pick and choose your battles when crying racism. Ridiculous claims of racisms hurt the legit claims. Some buffoon in Tennessee decided to hang some dummies in front of his house for Halloween.

This one has a Michael Vick jersey on. To be expected, someone is bitching that the display is racist.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH DORIAN PRICE, FIGHTER ELIMINATED FROM EPISODE 2 OF TUF 6

September 27, 2007

Price was submitted quickly by Matt Arroyo so there wasn’t much fighting to break down.

He did speak about experience of the show including hammering Joe Scarola for his whining in Episode 2. For Price, the house was torture, saying prisoners have a more pleasant life than those in the TUF house.

He had nothing but compliments for the work of Matt Hughes, Matt Serra and Robbie Lawler.

Price’s motivation to get into fighting is tragic. Much of it stems from the fact that three of his best friends died within three weeks of each other when he was 21 years old.

Dorian also spoke about the house’s racial environment, saying it was completely positive. He also feels strongly about the excellent impact Rampage Jackson will have on inner city kids getting into MMA.

THOSE WHO SAY THEY’RE NOT RACIST, ARE THE MOST DANGEROUS RACISTS

September 25, 2007

After five days of explaining why Donovan McNabb’s statements about black QB’s were completely valid…Bill O’Reilly backs me up with his comments from the heart.

I heard countless white dipsh*t sports-talk hosts hammerMcNabb saying there was absolutely no validity to his comments that black QBs are covered differently.

My immediate thought was, LIARS!

Not every media member or fan thinks this way but many have some sort of prejudice. You hear the code words. The games of Michael Vick and Vince Young are broken down differently. Leadership and running an offense questions often surround the black QB.

O’Reilly’s statement reflect what much of white america thinks….ALL african-americans are the same and their different than “normal” people out there. As O’Reilly expresses…almost animal-like, out of control.

CLICK BELOW TO HEAR THE COMMENTS FROM O’REILLY’S RADIO SHOW AND CNN’S RICK SANCHEZ:

The O’Reilly’s of the world are the most dangerous. They don’t think for one second they’re prejudiced. Most times you hear someone apologize for a statement and say “I’m not racist,” you know the truth. You don’t say these things unless they’re engrained in your daily thought process.

TV POKER STAR AND CHILD MOLESTER, DEPORTED SOON?

September 22, 2007

This is a crazy story out of Las Vegas. Shawn Sheikhan, who rose to fame during a final table appearance in the 2005 World Series of Poker main event, is the target of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Sheikhan, an Iranian immigrant, is facing possible deportation over a 1995 conviction on sexual battery and annoyance or molestation of a child.

It’s amazing no one nationally has covered the story. Sheikhan is well-known figure based on his volatile personality on TV. He was a featured player on both seasons of NBC’s Poker after Dark. He engaged in a yelling match with Phil Hellmuth.  Imagine if people connected his angry behavoir with his child molesting background?

HERE IS A VIDEO OF THE VOLATILE SHEIKHAN FIGHTING WITH MIKE “THE MOUTH” MATUSOW:

HERE IS SHEIKHAN BREAKING MATUSOW’S GLASSES ON TV:

HERE IS SHEIKHAN & PHIL HELLMUTH ON POKER AFTER DARK:

UPDATE:

We just stumbled upon this. This guy Sheikhan has quite the history. He was also involved a car accident that killed a 91 y.o. woman back in 1999.

One of the two deaths attributed to the storm was the result of an auto accident just after 11 a.m., when a car hydroplaned in the northwest part of the valley.A Mercedes, driven by Las Vegan Shahram Sheikhan, 29, was traveling at speeds too fast for the slick road conditions on Buffalo Drive just north of Charleston Boulevard, Metro Police said. The Mercedes slid across the raised center median of southbound Buffalo and struck a Lincoln traveling in the northbound lanes, police said.

The female passenger, 91-year-old Dorathy Ohriner of Las Vegas, died at the scene, the Clark County Coroner’s office said today. The Lincoln was driven by Neil Ohriner, 66, also of Las Vegas, police said.

Ball State grad Jason Whitlock states Ronny Thompson is a liar, lacks courage and that the Thompson family cussed him out

August 16, 2007

We broke our version of the Ball State – Ronny Thompson controversy on Monday in conjunction with Mike Wilbon’s piece in the Washington Post.

We found it interesting that the Ball State alum chose not to write the story.

While filling in on the Jim Rome Show, Whitlock gave his take on the BSU-Thompsons rift. In an eight minute rant, he came off defending his alma mater about 80% of the time.

He repeatedly made references to Thompson lacking the courage to overcome the obstacles in Muncie, In. And he focused his convo mostly on the dysfunctional BSU athletic department and failed to point out to the national audience any of Thompson’s specific examples of a hostile racial atmosphere.

Thanks to FoxSportsRadio1460, the Jim Rome Show and Premiere Radio for the audio.

Whitlock spoke of Thompson’s poor attitude and how it rubbed people the wrong way at Ball State. He claims that the young coach “big-timed” him in their first face-to-face meeting and many others along the way.

According to sources close to the Thompson’s, Ronny felt he was never welcomed with open arms. Rarely was he invited to booster/alum functions.

Whitlock says Thompson treated boosters poorly and made lots of enemies within the BSU administration.

Whitlock says Thompson had a poor attitude and brought the treatment on himself.

We explained in the Monday story how Thompson walked into a fractured athletic department from the get-go.  The Athletic Director Collins was hired from the outside in January of 2006 which left two embittered candidates still working in the department. Those administrators along with women’s volleyball coach Randy Litchfield seemed to be on a witch hunt to snitch on Thompson and his coaches at every turn.

Whitlock really seemed stuck on the fact that Thompson is coming off as whiny and gutless. Here he makes his first reference to Thompson lacking courage.

Whitlock says Thompson should’ve fought through and that Thompson stains himself by quitting.

Whitlock explains blacks often deal with racism in the workplace. Thompson lacked the guts to fight through it.

Oddly enough, Whitlock never explains the racist claims and how serious they were in nature.  There are certainly different levels, correct? He never specifies this during his rant.

Whitlock says quitting and running was a mistake. And if Thompson had told him about the story back in March, he would’ve covered it.

This is where Whitlock’s timeline is screwy.

He’s right the athletic department in-fighting and backstabbing was something Thompson could’ve mentioned.

The 2nd set of violations didn’t come out for nearly two more months. Then came the racist notes and the tape recording of a compliance officer claiming that one of the associate A.D.’s used the word nigger in a conversation. How would Thompson have an inkling of what was to come down the pike after the Final 4?

Whitlock also says he was yelled at by the Thompsons. He says several other writers turned this story down.

We’re not sure how many writers turned it down but we hear Bill Rhoden was one of them. We’re not sure of the reasoning behind Rhoden doing this or exactly why Whitlock did.

Whitlock has always been willing to go against the grain and point out injustice. Is his status as a BSU alum clouding his view or did he read this correctly from the get-go?
