Not everyone loves the Chris Obekpa to UNLV move

August 7, 2015

On Wednesday, UNLV basketball added 6-10 senior-to-be Chris Obekpa. The St. John’s transfer will sit out this season and be eligible for the 2016-2017 campaign.

Sam Venecie, CBS Sports, doesn’t love the move and has questions for Dave Rice.

Is the one-dimensional, defensive minded Obekpa a good fit with more well-rounded big men (Goodluck Okonoboh, Stephen Zimmerman, Dwayne Morgan, Ben Carter) already on the roster?

Will Obekpa be happy with a potential lack of playing time?

Why did Obekpa join a team with a coach on the hot seat?

Did Rice take a risk with a player who was suspended at his previous stop? The N.Y. Post said the issue was a positive marijuana test.

AUDIO – Cofield & Co. talk Tom Brady pool cover-gate

August 7, 2015

Well-mannered? Polite? Respectful? They broke the mold when they made Tom Brady!

Maybe not.

Tom Terrific is just like the rest of us when we feel like we’re getting ripped off.

When a N.Y. judge unsealed documents in the NLFPA/Brady vs. NFL case, A series of email exhanchge from the Patriots’ QB hit the web. Brady’s shock, awe and rage in this email about the need for a massive winter pool cover is hilarious.

Read the entire email here.

Does Brady come off as a regular guy or a petulant, rich jackass who torments his minions?

Listen to Cofield and Adam Hill as they attempt to answer these important questions:

Is Brady a regular guy? He flipped about the cost of a new pool cover. Does he connect with you or come off as whiny rich guy?

The crew of Sig’s boat echoed the sentiments of every Seahawks fan and bettor.

Even worse? They had to experience the Super Bowl 49 flop over a phone.

Ignorant question of the day .. can’t Sig Hansen install some DirecTV on the Northwestern? Hook the boys up!

North Las Vegas a Top 5 ‘Most Boring City?’

August 7, 2015

What? North Las Vegas was ranked as one of the most boring cities in the country! How does that work?

Here are the parameters used by Movato:

  • Nightlife per capita (bars, clubs, comedy, etc.)
  • Live music venues per capita
  • Active life options per capita (parks, outdoor activities, etc.)
  • Arts and Entertainment per capita (movie theaters, festivals, galleries, theaters, etc.)
  • Fast Food restaurants per capita (the fewer the better)
  • Percentage of restaurants that are not fast food (the higher the better)
  • Percentage of young residents ages 18 to 34 (the higher the better)
  • Population density (the higher the better)

How complete was the data? Check out this odd line:

We then collected data from the U.S. Census (2010) business listings in categories we picked to measure excitement (or lack thereof). We weren’t able to get all the data on a few places, such as Paradise, NV, so spots like that got off lucky and didn’t make our list.

Thoughts? Is North Las Vgeas more boring than other Top 10 cities like San Bernadino and Stockton in California?

Buccaneers called ‘tone deaf’ and ’embarrassingly sexist’

August 6, 2015

The Tampa Bay Bucs are attempting to make the game of football appeal more to women, by launching RED.

What is RED? “A brand new women’s movement that will reinvent the female fan experience”.

This week RED explained why there is a play clock in football. Tampa Bay plan to post additional info about blending Bucs apparel into daily fashion, and encouraging women to share ideas via Pinterest.

A special RED Launch Party for The New Buccaneers Women’s Movement will take place on Thursday, Sept. 10th at Raymond James Stadium in the west club beginning at 6:00 p.m. Event highlights will include an “Insider’s Talk” with Buccaneers General Manager Jason Licht, surprise appearances from Buccaneer legends, gameday style tips from local area experts, and even a RED Lifestyle Lounge session to educate attendees on the art of incorporating their passion for the Bucs into their other lifestyle interests such as tailgating and home entertaining.

The N.Y. Times called this a lesson out of the 50’s.

USA Today says the NFL already claims that women make up 45-percent of the fanbase.

Is this a horrible way to get more women to watch football every Sunday? How do you encourage the women in your life to watch football throughout the fall?

Dan Henderson earned himself a spot on the The Ultimate Fighter 9 as the coach of the American team. Hopefully he also earned a rematch down the road aganst Rich Franklin It was a tight fight that should’ve been waged over five rounds instead of three.

The bigger loser on the night was one of the winners. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua struggled to put away a totally exhausted Mark Coleman. Rua will match up next against Chuck Liddell at UFC 97.

If so, she’s quite the Cougar. At 42, she looks damn good. And the rack looks natural. We’ll have to follow this one closely.

This is the jist of an interesting take from’s Jemele Hill who says the African-American community needed this win:

But considering how, until recently, Team USA has been vilified for being selfish, noncompetitive and fundamentally inept, it doesn’t surprise me that African-Americans view the gold medal as a special vindication.

The previous failures of the national team brought a strong sense of embarrassment to both African-American fans and players. strongly disagrees.
