YAHOO’S KEVIN IOLE TALKS BIG BOXING MATCH, WEC AND CALLS KIMBO-TANK FIGHT A JOKE

February 17, 2008

kimbo.jpgKevin says the Pavlik-Taylor rematch may be a completely different fight than we saw the first time around. He says Taylor will turn to his boxing and be more cautious. Can anyone make Pavlik box? The Youngstown-native is a straight ahead fighter.

Iole also talked about Wednesday’s WEC card. He thought the Albuquerque fight card was loaded with excellent fights. Iole’s fighter of the night was new WEC 135 champ Miguel Torres. Torres gave former champ Chase Beebe a jiu-jitsu lesson.

He wasn’t so complimentary of the Elite XC card this Saturday. He said the Slice-Abbott fight should be offensive to fans and this is why boxing killed itself for many years. Abbott (9-13) is over the hill and has lost 9-of-10 MMA fights.

WEC POST-FIGHT WRAP

December 13, 2007

One additional note not on tape was Paulo Filho lamenting his drop to 185. Maybe it was post-fight frustration, but Filho sounded very serious when saying that he is sick of dropping to middleweight. It’s hard to imagine WEC allowing it’s 185 champ to relinquish the belt and go to 205.

URIJAH FABER WITH COFIELD AFTER HIS WIN OVER JEFF CURRAN:

JENS PULVER POST-FIGHT (sorry sound quality isn’t so hot):

This is the media session with Jens. He answers these questions.

1. His mood before the fight

2. Where did your new found ground game come from?

3. Had you worked on the choke?

4. How did you get your ground game confidence back?

5. What does the move down do for you?

6. What do you think of a Faber fight?

CHAEL SONNEN EXPLAINS THE END OF THE FIGHT AND SOUNDED REALLY DOWN ABOUT THE LOSS:

LOOKS LIKE A MINIMUM OF SIX VERSUS EVENTS NEXT YEAR WITH PAY-PER-VIEW ON THE HORIZON. WEC IS ALSO LOOKING AT NEW MARKETS LIKE ALBUQUERQUE, NOCAL, SOCAL, FLORIDA, OKLAHOMA, ILLINOIS, COLORADO AND NEW JERSEY.

WEC VP PETER DROPICK DISCUSSES PLANS FOR 2008:

WEC looks to be headed for big things in 2008. Our buddies at FIGHTLINKER.COM expressed concerns about how UFC & WEC will co-exist.

December 12, 2007

Chael sat down with us right after the WEC weigh-in. He spoke a lot about his success since dropping down to 185. He says his resume blows away Filho’s.

The convo also included his take on Randy Couture v. UFC. Sonnen is part of Team Quest. He scoffed at the assertion that lots of people want to see Fedor v. Randy calling, “A Fat Russian.”
